The Psychology of Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

We humans are wired to stay where we feel comfortable. No one wants to just up and leave a place with a set routine or a job with a steady income — but if you want to make big things happen, then you have to do big things.

I’m not about complacency.

I admire people who are constantly working to hit the next level, to better themselves, and to create their best life.

In order to do that, you can’t stay where you feel comfortable. You have to step up to move up in life. It won’t always be easy, and I know there’s some fear that comes along with moving up. Getting over that fear takes just one thing, though. YOU. It takes your drive, your motivation, your desire to make your life better.

If all you ever want to do is maintain your status quo, then by all means, stay in your 9-5 job and stay chained to a desk.

But I want you to challenge the status quo.

Become someone who doesn’t just sit around waiting for life to happen to you. Become someone who makes life happen FOR you.

The Psychology of Comfort

So, how can you take that first step toward getting out of your comfort zone? It involves you fighting against our inherent human nature. You have to actively seek discomfort and anxiety. If it doesn’t cause you some anxiety, it’s not worth doing.

Anxiety drives us to get more done, and this is a concept that goes all the way back to an early 1900s study. Researchers found that performance stayed pretty steady so long as people stayed in their areas of comfort — but when they were presented with an “optimal anxiety” situation, their performance increased.

In other words, when we’re comfortable, we don’t feel the need to push ourselves. We are fine with doing just enough to keep getting by. If you really want to change your life, you have to change your mindset.

Additionally, when we push ourselves out of comfort, we’re more adaptable to change. This is key; in this line of work, you have to be able to adapt and evolve easily.

How Do We Get Out of the Comfort Zone?

If you have signed up for Talk Fusion and are working to build your teams, then you’ve already taken the first step.

If you haven’t taken advantage of our amazing Business Opportunity, then keep pushing yourself to do something different every single day. Always, always go with your gut. Sometimes it pays off to make snap decisions based on what you’re feeling.

Eventually, you’ll look back and see that you’ve pushed yourself to a life you never thought possible. After 25+ years in this industry, I can look back and tell you that my life has changed immeasurably — but none of this would have ever happened had I not pushed myself out of my comfortable situation into something new and different.

Take it in small steps if you need to. You’ve started out on a journey, and this isn’t something small. This is something that can be potentially life-changing.

If you need support, reach out to your team leader or other Associates. I’ve worked to make sure we have a strong support system within Talk Fusion Nation. And as always, we here at Talk Fusion corporate are available as well with a world-class staff.

Good luck out there and remember to always push beyond the boundaries you set for yourself!
