How to Make a Good First Impression

Did you know that when you meet someone, they will form their opinion of you in about seven seconds?

That’s not a lot of time.

Successful people know that making a good first impression is vital. I’ve learned over the years that when someone forms their opinion of you, they also decide whether or not they can trust you. And if someone can’t trust you, then do you think they’ll agree to listen to you?

How can you build that trust and make a good first impression? I’ve got some tips for you on how to do just that.

#1: Project confidence

If you walk into a situation looking unsure, with body language signifying you don’t know what’s going on, will these people trust you? Probably not. When I walk into a room, I command their attention. I walk in knowing that whatever I have to say, that these people will benefit from it. That’s how you need to be, too.

#2: Approach with a firm handshake

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to shake someone’s hand and felt a limp handshake. To me, that’s not impressive. A limp handshake shows me that the person isn’t confident in themselves or the situation. But a firm handshake? That makes all the difference.

#3: Check your body language

Never walk into a room with your shoulders slumped. You have Talk Fusion on your side — so you better walk in with your head held high. You have an opportunity to offer that no one else does, so show it.

#4: Speak clearly and concisely

Have you ever been impressed by someone who spoke too quickly or too slowly, or jumbled their words? I haven’t. I want someone who can show me that they value my time, and if they’re going to do that, then they need to speak clearly and concisely. Get to the point effectively. That’s exactly what you need to do when you approach someone.

#5: SMILE.

People don’t want to talk to an emotionless robot. You have to show enthusiasm, and that means you have to smile! You may be nervous, but don’t let that show. Instead, let your passion do the talking and your excitement will naturally take over.

It’s easy to make a good first impression — it’s also easy to make a bad impression. But that’s entirely up to you, and how you carry yourself. The best part about Talk Fusion is that we provide you with all the tools you need to walk into any room with confidence.
